If your Yealink phone not ringing, know that this is a common issue and can easily be solved!
Yealink has designed one of the best-working IP phone systems available on the market, with top-notch call quality and excellent communication.
A potential ringing issue can occur as a result of activating “DND,” setting up call forwarding or degrading the internet quality.
So, let’s take a quick peek into the all-in-one solution guide:
If your Yealink phone isn’t ringing, test the ringing tone through another IP phone, turn off “DND” and re-configure the “Call Forwarding” feature. If you’re still facing problems, power reset the stand and reset the SIP server.
Let’s explore further solutions to the issue!
Why is My Yealink Phone Not Ringing?
Your Yealink IP phone system consists of a SIP server, a finite amount of Yealink phones, and expansion systems, which are optional for larger offices.
The system exists under a private IP roundup and each call is guided through the SIP server, converted into digital, and sent to the respective Yealink phone within the network.
Here’s what can prevent your Yealink phone from ringing upon receiving a call:
How to Test a Yealink Ringtone?
Perhaps the easiest method to test if a Yealink IP phone rings is by calling through your mobile smartphone or another IP phone under the same network number.
So, ensure the handset is on the base and determine if there will be any output tone, even if you’re redirected to voicemail.
Check Yealink’s Volume Buttons!
All Yealink wired phones have Volume Up / Down keys for controlling the volume levels.
Press the “Volume Up” button multiple times to ensure that the volume is increased sufficiently, before testing the Yealink phone.
Yealink Phone Not Ringing – Quick & Easy Fix
Tip: We strongly recommend following the solutions in order!
1. Power Reset the Yealink Phone Unit
The first solution to inaudible ringing is to perform a power reset on the Yealink phone unit.
A potential failure of the phone’s system or insufficiency in the voltage supply can lead to many unexpected issues with the phone, such as muffled or suppressed ringing.
- To power reset the Yealink phone, disconnect the A/C supply cord from the power supply for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
That’s it. Such a simple method might resolve most of your Yealink phone problems.
Note: The handstand must be placed on the base while the power cord is unplugged!
2. Stop the Yealink’s DND (Do Not Disturb)
The “Do Not Disturb” feature available on Yealink phones allows the user to briefly decline all incoming calls and send the recipient straight to voicemail.
Then, the caller will hear a busy tone if DND is activated and if you have recorded a voicemail, the message will play instantly.
Keep in mind that “DND” is not available with all Yealink phones and so far only the “W” models have it, including the “W52,” “W52P,” and “W60P.”
Tip: You can check the exact model of your phone on the delivery package or wrapping!
How to Check if Yealink’s “DND” Is Activated?
If you have activated “DND” on your Yealink phone, there will be a “do not disturb” icon on the homepage of the phone.
The icon appears as a small earphone with a red cross over it, which shows that the “Do Not Disturb” feature is “ON”
How to Turn Off Yealink DND? (W52, W56P & W60P)
- Press the “OK” button next to Yealink’s handset.
- Look for the “Do Not Disturb” icon on the page.
- Select “Line 1” and tap on “Enable” or “Disable.”
Note: If “DND” is active, the “Disable” feature will be colored and if not, “Disable” will be colored.
3. Reinstall Yealink’s Ethernet Cable
Well, unlike a standard landline installation, Yealink’s IP technology converts analog voice communications to digital, allowing for a more stable and secure connection.
To convert data properly, the Yealink phone must be connected to the main SIP server or an expansion system.
Follow these instructions to reinstall the Yealink phone’s Ethernet:
- Locate the Ethernet jack on the back of the Yealink phone.
- Disconnect the cable from the back of the Yealink device.
- Unplug the other end from the back of the SIP server unit.
- Next, wait for 45–50 seconds while the phone is unplugged.
- Re-install the Ethernet cord on both ends to deliver service.
To ensure that the Ethernet connection is secure, each of the RJ 45 connector latches must have clicked into the port.
Some Ethernet connectors may even flash in green if the connection is secure as an indication that your Yealink has established a connection to the LAN network.
Tip: Try to notice any visual damages or defects on the Ethernet cord while unplugged!
4. Turn off Yealink’s “Call Forwarding”
The line “Call Forwarding” is a widely popular and necessary feature for scheduling calls and creating an automated “Calls Funnel.”
If the line “Call Forwarding” feature has been activated and set up, all calls addressed to your Yealink phone will be forwarded to a different IP number.
Here’s how to check if “Call Forwarding” is active on your Yealink phone:
- Navigate to “Menu” on your Yealink phone.
- Select “Feature” and choose “Call Forward.”
- Tap the call forwarding line that is activated.
- Set the forwarding to “Disable” at the bottom.
- Select “ALL Lines” to turn off all phone lines.
- Tap “Save” to register the changes and exit.
Note: The “Call Forwarding” can be activated only for particular lines of your phone network!
5. Reset the SIP Server/Expansion System
Still asking why my Yealink phone is not ringing? Well, this could be because of the primary SIP server’s system.
The SIP server establishes a connection between the office’s closed networks with all recipients and creates a data conversion environment, and resetting it should help you.
Warning: All phones and expansion systems wired with the primary server will be temporarily offline!
Follow these steps to reset the SIP server plugged into the Yealink phone:
- Optional: Track the Yealink phone’s Ethernet cable to the server.
- Next, locate the power cord on the back of the SIP server system.
- Unplug the adapter from the back of the SIP server and the outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the server is unplugged and plug it back.
What is an SIP Expansion System?
The “SIP Expansion System” is an additional device that expands the coverage of the primary SIP server used in larger offices and closed IP systems.
It is particularly helpful as very few primary servers can support more than 8 or up to 12 phone connections, which greatly limits the office’s capabilities.
Note: The expansion system must be directly wired with the SIP server at all times!
6. Reconnect the Yealink’s Handstand
You can address non-lasting issues with the Yealink phone by unplugging and reconnecting the handstand’s cable connection.
A Yealink phone consists of a base, handstand, and a separate handstand cord that must be installed after plugging the base with an electrical power supply.
Here’s how to reconnect the Yealink phone’s handstand in easy steps:
- Lift your handstand from the Yealink phone’s base.
- Detach the pin connector from the handstand first.
- Pull out the other end of the connector from the base.
- Next, wait 60 seconds while the cord is disconnected.
- Finally, reinstall the handstand connector on both ends.
Alert: Inspect the physical condition of the handstand cord and attempt to notice any defects!
7. Check-in the SIP Registration
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a system based on identifying and authenticating your Yealink phone’s credentials – the username and password used in the registration.
This can be used by your provider to validate that everything with your subscription and phone system is ok.
All of this happens over-distance, without a technician having to come over!
Can I Self-Check SIP Registration?
Unfortunately, inspecting your SIP’s username and password is possible if you’re a registered Yealink agent.
You can check, manage, or decline your SIP registration by contacting Yealink at their registered Customer Care support number at 0086-592-5702000.
Once you’re in contact with an agent, provide them with the necessary registration info on your SIP server and wait until your network is identified.
Then, you will be notified if your username and password are active or require renewal.
Note: Your network will deactivate automatically if your credentials expire!
Quick Recap
If your Yealink phone is not ringing, reconnect the phone’s Ethernet, inspect the handstand, and deactivate the “Do Not Disturb” mode.
Also, deactivate the “Call Forwarding” option, and check your SIP registration.
