Note: If you can’t straightforwardly identify the origin of the issue, continue with the guide below in consecutive order.
1. Update Your MacBook or iMac!
The first and most crucial step is to check whether you’re missing any updates from Apple on your Macbook or iMac.
In case there are any updates available, we recommend applying them!
Here’s how to update your Apple macOS computer:
- First, open the System Settings window.
- Then, select the “General” tab on the right.
- OR, Apple menu > System Preferences.
- Finally, click on the “Software Update” tile.
Wait until your Apple computer updates to the latest software.
Also, it’s not excluded that Sky Go is not working due to a recent macOS firmware upgrade, which doesn’t support the app.
Note: When you’re ready with the update, test the Sky Go application!
2. Restart Your Apple Computer
This step is simple. You only need to power off and then power on your Apple computer to refresh all operational services and tasks.
Remember that closing and opening your laptop doesn’t count, and you need to go to the Apple menu and click on the “Shutdown” option.
Shortly after, your MacBook or iMac will shut down. Then, press the power button on your Apple computer to load the operating system.
Therefore cleanly, open the Sky Go application and test whether you’ll be allowed to sign in and stream content.
Note: The shutdown option is more effective than the restart option!
3. Temporarily Disable the Firewall
One of the most frequent reasons why Sky Go is not working on a macOS computer is a conflict with the network settings due to the integrated Firewall.
Sky Go is a certified provider, so it’s safe to disable your Firewall and attempt using or re-installing the Sky Go Mac application.
Here’s how to disable the Firewall on your Apple computer:
- First, click on the Apple menu at the top right.
- Then, select the “System Preferences” option.
- From there, select the “Security & Privacy” tab.
- Then click on the “Firewall” from the tabs above.
- Next, click on the “Lock” to grant access.
- Then, disable the Firewall and test your Sky Go.
Info: When you click on the lock, you’ll be prompted to insert your Apple login details, so you can approve your admin rights and be allowed to edit the security settings.
4. Pause or Suppress Any Antivirus!
Same as with your Apple computer’s Firewall, any conflict with installed antivirus software will result in Sky Go on Mac not working.
So, it’s essential to check and temporarily disable any antivirus app or service on your Mac to verify that your Sky Go is not facing issues.
The quickest way to disable a service would be by opening the app and stopping the operation from there.
If you’re unsure whether you have an antivirus, go into the Finder, search for “Activity Monitor,” select any service you want to force-stop and click “Stop.”
Tip: This will stop the app related to the service until you restart your computer or turn on your antivirus software manually.
5. Uninstall and Reinstall Sky Go
One of the best ways to address problems with the Sky Go application performance on a Mac is to uninstall and reinstall the app.
This will clear the application’s folders, registries, and cache data and give you a fresh start and the latest app system firmware!
Here’s how to uninstall and reinstall the Sky Go app on Mac:
- First, open the Finder app on your Mac.
- Then, use the search to find “Sky Go.”
- Multi-click on the icon to reveal the list.
- Select “Move to Bin” from the options.
- Then, multi-click the Bin from the Dock.
- Select the “Empty Bin” option to remove.
- Then go to the official Sky Download Page.
- Click on the “Mac – download the app” button.
- Unzip the content from the downloaded files.
- Start the “SkyGoInstaller” to begin the setup.
After removing and reinstalling the app, your settings will be permanently gone, and you’ll have to sign in to your Sky account. Only then you’ll be allowed into the Sky Go app.
Note: Verify that you’re downloading Sky Go from the official source!
6. Verify Your Internet Connection!
If you’re doing everything correctly, but the Sky Go app is still not working on your Mac computer, then perhaps the issue is because of your internet or WiFi.
You might see a white screen, or the Sky Go app will keep crashing when the internet stream fluctuates.
So, there are several good ways to optimize your internet connection!
- Power cycle your network router for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the service cable on the router’s back.
- Optimise WiFi by unpairing any connected devices.
- Relieve bandwidth by preventing networking tasks.
- Finally, test your internet connection online for free.
Verifying that your internet is stable and not fluctuating is imperative.
If Sky Go is loading very slowly or the content keeps buffering on your Mac, ensure your internet speed is at least 2 Mbps.
In case of any speeds lower than this, Sky Go will be working slowly!
Are You Using a VPN?
It’s essential to know that Sky Go is only available in the UK, and if you’re outside the UK, even if you download the app, you wouldn’t be able to stream.
So, if you’re in the UK, stop your VPN to prevent any location altering and enable your VPN if you’re outside the UK.
Tip: If you’re outside the United Kingdom, connect to a British server to enable your access to Sky Go on any device.
7. Test Sky Go On Different Devices!
The final step that will allow you to conclude is to test whether the Sky Go application works on other devices.
For example, if you have a Windows-operated computer or a mobile with iOS or Android software, go into the respective app store and download Sky Go to test.
If Sky Go is working on another device, there’s probably something wrong with the operating version on your Mac computer.
However, if Sky Go doesn’t work on other computers and platforms, perhaps their services are temporarily down, and nobody can stream Sky right now.
You can check for Sky Service Outages anytime!
Note: In an ongoing outage, you can only wait until the services are restored.
