Whenever the nbn battery beeping starts, it may be frightening, but don’t worry, we’ll help!
Although an nbn uses a standard power wire to connect with an outlet, the NTD equipment also uses a backup battery in case of a power outage.
So, this guide will help you understand what causes the prolonged beeping of the nbn’s alarm and what can be done to eliminate it instantly.
If the nbn’s battery indicator is beeping, silence the nbn alarm with a long or short press on the “Alarm Silence” NTD button. Then, inspect the nbn box’s power equipment and check the NTD unit backup battery capacity.
There is much more to learn, so let’s get started!
Why is my nbn Box Battery Beeping?
The beeping of the nbn signalises the upcoming failure of the backup battery during a power outage or low capacity.
So, based on the occasion, the beeping produced by the nbn’s battery alarm differs in pitch, frequency and longevity.
Here are the two possible occasions:
- Ongoing power outage (4 prolonged beeps in a minute.)
- Low battery life (A single beep once every 15 minutes.)
Also, remember that the backup battery will stop charging during a power outage, and the nbn system will function on emergency resources until it fails.
Tip: In a power outage, disconnect the backup battery to preserve the power!
nbn Battery Beeping – Here’s How to Fix
1. Silence the nbn Alarm
Pressing the “Alarm Silence” button will mute all notifications and sounds the nbn box produces permanently or for the next 24 hours.
Shutting off the internal alarm will deactivate all low-battery alerts, but the risk of deactivation is still there, as this only silences the unit.
How to Silence nbn Battery Alarm 24 Hours?
To mute the nbn’s alarm for 24 hours, hold the “ALARM SILENCE” button on the front panel for 2 seconds.
The nbn will indicate the deactivation of the alarm with a continuous beep sound.
How to Silence nbn Battery Alarm Permanently?
To permanently deactivate the nbn’s alarm and silence the bothersome beeping, press and hold the “ALARM SILENCE” button for up to 15 seconds.
Your nbn box will produce another beep.
Alert: Muting the alarm does not solve the problem, so continue reading!
2. Activate “Battery Emergency Use”
The second button on the NTD’s frontal panel is the “Battery Emergency Use” regime that allows the nbn to function even if the backup battery’s capacity is below 50%.
By default, the nbn is set to deactivate automatically whenever the backup battery reaches a 50% threshold.
Follow these instructions to activate the battery emergency use mode:
- Locate the “Battery Emergency Use” button on the nbn.
- Next, hold the button for 4 seconds to turn on the regime.
- Release the button after all nbn LED lights flash in unison.
- Check whether the nbn’s system will restore functionality.
Remember that allowing the nbn to function with a backup battery below 50% creates room for internal power failure.
Although the beeping will stop, the nbn box will cease all functionality if the backup battery’s capacity reaches 0% until your external power supply is working correctly.
3. Power Cycle the nbn Box
An NTD power circulation is an excellent solution when nbn box battery beeping and restoring the backup battery’s connection.
So, to achieve a power cycle, the power supply cord of the nbn must be disconnected from the power outlet and then connected directly to a proven socket.
Here’s how to perform a power circulation on the nbn box:
- Unplug the power cord of the nbn from the power outlet.
- Disconnect the other end of the cable from the nbn unit.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the nbn box is disconnected.
- Re-attach the power cable back into the electrical outlet.
- Plug the other end of the adapter back into the nbn unit.
- Wait until the NTD equipment turns on and test the nbn.
Alert: Don’t press the “Reset” button, as it will factory reset your nbn!
4. Check for a Tripped Fuse
If the power outage lasts longer than usual, it could be a tripped circuit fuse deactivating your electrical installation.
Such an issue will deactivate the main power source, leaving your nbn on the backup battery producing the beeping sound.
How to Check if the Breaker is Tripped?
- Find the circuit breaker panel in your home or garage.
- Find the breaker assigned with “nbn” or “NTD” in the row.
- Check if the switch is pushed downwards towards “OFF.”
How to Reset the Circuit Breaker?
- Push the switch of the breaker into the “OFF” position.
- Wait for 30 seconds while the breaker is deactivated.
- Push the switch back to the “ON” side to reset power.
If there is no switch within the breaker specifically designed to supply the NTD unit where the backup battery is located, deactivate the room’s power.
If you’re using an older fuse, you may need to unscrew the fuse from the casing for a few minutes.
Reminder: Resetting the power will turn off all your electrical appliances!
5. Inspect the nbn Power Cord
A defective power cord of the nbn box could result in issues with the electrical supply and cause the unit to start consuming from the backup battery’s capacity.
So, inspecting the power cord to prevent further consumption of the NTD’s backup battery is the best next step.
How to Check if a Power Cord is Defective?
- Loose plugs on both ends.
- Rips, cuts or exposed wires.
- Bent electrical connectors.
Reliable Replacement Options for nbn Power Cord
Either of these cables will suffice as a replacement for your nbn connection box.
Once you have installed the new equipment, determine if the backup battery is still being drained and beeping.
Note: Avoid purchasing before consulting with an nbn technician!
6. Factory Reset the nbn Box
nbn battery beeping how to stop? Well, do a factory reset!
This is probably the most potent solution for issues with your nbn box, but there’s a downside.
After completion of the procedure, all network-assigned settings will be erased from the modem and re-assigned automatically by the installed nbn connection box with the modem’s assistance.
Follow these instructions to factory reset the nbn connection box:
- Locate the pinhole on the nbn’s rear labelled “Reset.”
- Next, insert a pin or paperclip into the reset pinhole.
- Hold the button for 15 seconds while the nbn resets.
- Stop holding the reset button after all nbn lights flash.
- Wait for 30 seconds until the connection box reboots.
Remember that restoring the nbn box to factory defaults will temporarily cease the internet connection of all network devices.
You’ll regain internet access automatically, so be patient.
Note: The connection with the network after the reset may take up to 15 minutes!
7. Replace the nbn Box’s Battery
The nbn box uses a 12V 7.0 to 7Ah 6-cell SLA battery with F2 terminals for backup power supply.
If the issue persists, you should consider replacing the backup battery unit, as the batteries that nbn boxes use are typically unusable after dropping below 10-15% capacity.
Here’s how to access the battery compartment of the NTD unit and replace the battery:
- Turn off the nbn box and disconnect it from power.
- Open the front cover and detach the red “+” plug.
- Then, push the tabs holding the battery and lift it.
- Next, detach the black “-” plug from the battery.
- Remove the battery carefully from the nbn device.
- Optional: Insert a brand new nbn backup battery.
Reliable nbn Battery Replacement Options:
To install the new battery pack, follow the instructions above to uninstall the current battery and install the brand-new unit.
Verify that the new battery establishes proper contact with the power terminals to secure a stable backup electricity supply for the NTD equipment and your nbn box.
Note: If the nbn beeping continues, the nbn box may be faulty, so contact a professional!
Quick Recap:
Whenever the nbn battery is beeping, press the “Alarm Silence” button to silence the beeping and activate the “Battery Emergency Use” regime.
If the issue is still there, inspect the power supply and equipment of the nbn box before replacing the battery.
