By doing so you will restart ALL services including the WiFi and hopefully, the internet will start transmitting.
If a reboot does not work and there is no internet on your WiFi, let’s proceed with some proven solutions for cases like yours.
Solution #1. Power Reset Linksys
We recommend that your first solution is to power reset your Linksys router. This will properly discharge the device, removing any temporal power malfunctions that might be suppressing the internet connection.
Here are the steps to power reset your router:
- Turn OFF your Linksys router by pressing the power button once.
- Unplug the power adapter from the power source.
- Wait for 5 minutes in order for the device to be discharged.
- Plug the power adapter back in and test your internet connection.
Tip: If you are testing your WiFi internet on only one device, you should take another to justify the outages. It might be from your device!
Solution #2. Run An Ethernet Check
If the network remains there but there is no internet connection, it is possible that the issue might be with the Ethernet cable connection.
This is why you should run an Ethernet connection check on your PC to determine any Ethernet issues.
Follow these steps to run an Ethernet check on your PC:
- Right-click the internet icon in the Windows taskbar.
- Click the Ethernet icon and select “Troubleshoot Problems”.
- A prompt will open up.
- Wait for the scan to complete!
Once the checker has finished, any issues with the Ethernet connection will be displayed above the green bar.
From there you will be able to see what has gone wrong with your Ethernet connection.
Note: If your checker is unable to detect an Ethernet cable at all, check if the cable’s head is blinking on the back of your PC. If not, it is most likely that the cable got faulty.
Solution #3. Troubleshoot Signal Strength
Another major cause of internet connection losses is weak signal strength.
Low connection signal levels can occur due to interference or other physical obstructions that may be surrounding the router.
Here are some tips to increase the signal strength:
- Remove solid objects and electrical devices from around the router.
- Remove any heat conductors near the router.
- Don’t expose the router to sunlight for too long.
- Position the router in the middle level of the room possibly.
- Shorten the range between your devices and router.
- Relieve the RAM usage on the device you’re testing with!
Signals strength might as well be compromised due to heavy weather outside or factory low MBPs.
On the other hand, if the device you’re testing with is using more than 85% of its RAM memory, the WiFi will appear to drop, but the issue would be from the device itself.
Solution #4. Inspect Wi-Fi Receiver
If you’re not using a wired Ethernet connection on your PC, then most certainly you’re connected with the network with the help of a USB WiFi receiver.
If this is your case then you should definitely pay attention to it first before suspecting the router.
Here are some tips to troubleshooting the Wi-Fi receiver off of potential issues:
- Ensure the receiver’s drivers of the WiFi receivers are updated by checking the manufacturer forum.
- Check if the device is functional and its LED is blinking.
- Use different USB ports for the receiver.
- Reconnect to the WiFi.
Solution #5. Choose Different WiFi Frequency
Another thing you can try is to choose a different Wi-Fi frequency.
If the default frequency you’ve chosen is 2.4GHz, you might upgrade the connection by picking a 5GHz, even though the range is more restricted with the faster networks.
Here are some steps to choose different WiFI Frequency:
- Enter the router options by inputting 192.168.1.1 in your web browser.
- The default login credentials on the following page are “admin/admin” (try also admin/password).
- Navigate to the Wireless Interface page.
- Go to manual and switch the frequency from default to 5GHz.
