Solutions to Kindle Books Not Showing Up in Library
To solve why my books aren’t showing up on Kindle, we are going to consider different problems and solve them.
While the causes are diverse, there are simple solutions to these problems. Below are the key solutions to Kindle book library problems.
Solution #1 Turn on Whisper Sync to Read on Multiple Devices
Kindle books are normally read on different devices. For each of the devices to access the library, there should be synchrony.
In other words, all the devices should be linked. In this manner, when a book is purchased on one device it is updated on all devices.
To achieve synchrony, make sure you turn on Whisper sync if you are accessing books on more than one device.
This can be done from your Kindle device or Amazon account.
How to turn on Whisper sync on Kindle
- Open your Kindle and login
- Go to the Menu Tab
- Select Settings
- Select Device Options
- Select Advanced Options
- Under Whisper sync, check whether it is turned on, if not Turn it On
How to turn on Whisper sync on Amazon Website
- Visit the Amazon page for Manage Your Devices
- Select Preferences
- Select Device Synchronization
- Tap on Whispersync Settings
- Tap to Turn On
- Go back to your primary Kindle device and click on Sync
Solution #2 Manually Sync Your Kindle With Device
Even if synchronization is turned on in your settings, there are times when the application may fail to sync.
This happens due to bugs or device glitches. Your device may also fail to sync if your internet connection is poor.
To fix such issues, you have to manually sync your Kindle to the Amazon account. This is something you can do at the tap of a button.
To sync your Kindle
- Ensure that your device has an internet connection
- Open your Kindle Reader
- Go to Home and select Settings
- Under settings tap on Sync Your Kindle
- Give your device a few seconds to load and go check for your books in the Library
Note: If your device continues experiencing sync problems, you should try turning it off and back on.
Always check to ensure that your internet is working before trying to synchronize your accounts.
Solution #3 Set Your Default Kindle Device
When you order a new book on Amazon, it might take time before it reflects on all devices. However, any book will automatically be delivered to the default device.
Even if you have so many other devices on your account, the one identified as default will always have priority.
If you are trying to find a book in your library unsuccessfully, try making the device the default account holder.
How to set the default device for Kindle
- Go to Amazon Manage Your Content page
- Select Device
- Search for Find this Kindle
- Click on Device Actions
- Select Set as Default
This will set the Kindle reader you are using as default and automatically give you access to all recently purchased books.
Solution #4 Update Kindle on Your Device
You are likely to run into trouble if you are using an outdated Kindle reader. Like any other application, your Kindle must be updated regularly.
Whether you are using Kindle on a PC or phone, make sure you are using an updated app.
How to Update Kindle on Computer
- Visit Download Kindle Apps.
- Select Download for Mac &PC
- Click on Download and let the file complete being downloaded
- Click on the downloaded file and follow the Prompts on your screen to Install
Note: These steps only apply to Windows 8, 8.1, 10, 11, and Mac OS x 10.14 or higher.
If you are using a device that is not supported you will have to use Kindle Cloud Reader.
Update Kindle for Mobile Devices
All Mobile devices including Android and iOs devices can be updated like any other application.
All you have to do is locate the app in the AppStore and select update.
- Open the AppStore on your phone
- Search for Kindle
- Select Kindle and check to see if it is updated
- If the app needs an update click on Update to download and Install Updates
Solution #5 Deregister and Register Kindle Once More
The other solution is to simply deregister your Kindle device and register it again.
This step helps clear bugs and glitches. It is also a way of ensuring that synchronization takes place.
How to deregister a Kindle device
- Open the Kindle App
- Select Tools
- Tap on Option
- Click on Registration on the left side of your screen
- Tap on Deregister
Once the device has been deregistered, you will be sent back to the registration page. From here, register your device once more and try accessing the Libray.
How to register a device on Kindle
- Select the Menu Button from home
- Tap on Settings
- Select Your Account if you are using a new generation device
- If you are using an older device select Registration
- Input your Amazon Account Details
- Tap on Register
With that, you will have registered your account again and should have access to all the books in your library.
Solution #6 Remove Kindle DRM Protection
Some of the Kindle books you purchase are DR protected. Such books may not show up in your library.
Books downloaded on your device from other sites will also be DRM protected.
When you purchase or sideload a DRM-protected book to Kindle is held in your left sidebar.
You might think it is not available in your library but it is just not visible. Removing DRM will make your book visible on the main menu.
To remove DRM from Book
- Go to your Library
- Click on the Left Sidebar
- Find the Book Title you are looking for
- Tap and Hold on the Title and drag it to the Right
- Drop it to the Right
Note: This will not only make your book available in the library but will also remove DRM protection.
Solution #7 Sort Library for Downloaded Books
Books loaded from Caliber or any other site apart from Amazon will not show up in your library automatically. The Kindle library is set such that it shows books on Amazon cloud.
To access books that are not on Amazon, change the sort option from “All” to “Downloaded”.
How to find downloaded books
- Open your Kindle reader
- Select Menu
- Tap on Library
- Under library click on Sort and Select Downloaded
- Go back to the library to view books loaded from other sites.
Solution #8 Update Payment Method
Updating your payment method could also help solve this problem. If your payment method is outdated, all the purchases made will not reflect in your library.
In some instances, you may think that the purchase has been processed when not.
To update the payment method
- Go to Manage Accounts
- Select Preferences
- Selected Edit Payment Methods
- Select Digital Payment Settings
- Select a Payment Method
- Tap Add New to update your payment details
- Click on Continue to finish setting up
Note: The information associated with your credit cards must be related to your residence.
Solution #9 Download Books Removed From Amazon
Finally, confirm that the book you are looking for is still available on Amazon. If a book is no longer sold on Amazon, it may also be missing from the cloud storage.
You won’t be able to access such books so the solution here is to download it from another site and sideload it to Kindle.
Summary
With that, you will have resolved Kindle books not showing up in library. You can now go back to your Kindle library and find the book you want.
If the book is no longer available on Amazon, download it from a different site.
