Why is Google Fi Activated But No Service?
The service or “reception” is the main way of Google Fi to establish calls, and text messages by using the “T-Mobile” cellular network.
When the phone shows no service bars, LTE, or no service, one must first get familiar with the primary suspects, so here are all potential causes…
- Google Fi, T-Mobile cellular network outage.
- The Google Fi activation was not completed.
- The device’s SIM was not properly inserted.
- A misconfiguration in the unit’s APN settings.
- A fault with the network settings of the device.

How to Fix Google Fi No Service & Optimize Signal?
Tip: Try the steps below in the order that they are listed for optimal efficiency!
1. Power Cycle Google Fi Device!
The first and easiest step is to perform a power circulation on your Google Fi device, regardless of the operating system or device’s model.
The power cycle does not delete anything from your device, instead, the process only discharges the machine completely and refreshes all services!
- To power cycle your Google Fi device shut down the unit for 60 seconds!
The “shutdown” doesn’t mean “restart” so power off your device completely for a minute and then turn the phone back on.
This method will stimulate the network to re-establish the cellular connection, which will hopefully resolve the “no service” Google Fi issue…
Tip: While your device is turned off, apply the next step!
2. Reseat the Google Fi SIM Card
Note: Skip this step if you’re using a Google Fi device with eSIM.
For users with a physical Google Fi SIM card, the “no service” could be a prime indication for a SIM card that was not recognized by the device.
Such issues occur when the SIM card is not embedded properly into the ray, or the SIM is the wrong size and doesn’t match the tray.
Follow the steps below to eject and re-embed the Google Fi SIM card:
- First, acquire a SIM ejector tool or a needle!
- Reach within the SIM pinhole on your device.
- Apply pressure to pop out the SIM card holder.
- When the tray comes out, gently eject the SIM.
- Then, clean any dust accumulation on the tray.
- Also clean dust from the SIM tray compartment.
- To put the card, use the cut orientational corder.
- Embed the SIM into the tray, and push the tray in.
Info: After a few short moments, your phone should prompt you to insert the SIM card PIN code (1111) and in case the prompt never appears, continue with the next step!
3. Adjust the Google Fi APN Settings!
The APN settings (Access Point Name), are specific for each mobile operator and when your device is unable to acquire the values automatically, there is no service.
So, in this method, we’ll show you how to manually re-configure the APN settings of your Apple or Android Fi device!
- To access the APN settings on Androids, go to Settings > Wireless & Internet > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Add New.
- To access the APN settings on iOS, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network.
Then configure the APN settings as per the table below:

Note: On both Android and iOS, feel free to leave fields named “Username” and “Password” blank as they don’t play any role in the reception signal.
4. Reset Google Fi Network Settings!
Sometimes when a Google Fi device only shows “no service”, the reason is often found within the network settings.
In case configuring the APN manually didn’t help, perhaps resetting the network settings and allowing the device to automatically set these settings up will help you!
Note: The network reset will erase WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular device settings!
How to Reset the Network Settings on Android?
- Go into the Settings of your Android.
- Then navigate to the “System” tab.
- The next step is to go to “Advanced”.
- Next, enter the “Reset Options”.
- Finally, select “Reset Network Settings”.
How to Reset Network Settings on iOS (Apple)?
Note: The steps below will help you with Google Fi no service iPhone on iOS 15 or later!
- First, reach into Apple’s Settings.
- From there, go to the “General” tab.
- Next, enter the “Transfer or Reset” tab.
- Tap “Reset” > “Reset Network Settings”.
Note: When you’re ready reboot your mobile, and the Google Fi signal should be back!
5. Toggle Airplane Mode ON & OFF
A solution that has proven to help many people with the “no service” issue on Google Fi, is the Airplane Mode.
The way this works is by simply toggling ON and OFF the Airplane Mode, which basically refreshes the entire wireless connection of your device, including the cellular.
- The Airplane Mode is typically found in the quick menu settings!
On Android swipe from the bottom and on iOS, from the top. When the quick menu appears, tap on the Airplane icon, which will enable the mode.
Then your device will temporarily drop any sort of wireless connection, and when you toggle the Airplane Mode off, everything will refresh.
Note: While the Airplane Mode is enabled, you won’t be able to use the Google Fi services!
6. Check for Failed SIM Verification
It’s not unlikely that your Google Fi services are offline “no service”, due to incomplete or a bad SIM card or eSIM verification.
So, in this step, we’ll guide you through the Google Fi SIM setup and verification process to verify that your Google Fi SIM is activated properly!
- First, download Google Fi Wireless from the App Store or Google Play!
How to Activate Google Fi SIM?
- Insert the physical SIM card into the phone.
- Sign in to the admin Google Fi app account.
- Select “SIM card” at “Choose Your SIM Type”.
- Follow the in-app instructions for activation.
How to Activate Google Fi eSIM?
- Open the Google Fi app and sign in as owner.
- Select “eSIM” at “Choose Your SIM Type”.
- For iOS devices, go to Google Fi iOS Setup.
- On Android, simply follow the in-app steps.

7. Optimize the Cellular Coverage!
