If you’ve noticed that the BT Smart Hub is periodically rebooting or powering off inexplicably, you’re probably looking at an issue with the power supply.
Thus, the first step is to review all underlying aspects of this malfunction to gain a proper understanding and find the true culprit.
If the BT Smart Hub is rebooting constantly, first check if the power cord of the network device is secured and connect the hub to a different power outlet. Next, inspect the hub’s power cord for any wear and tear.

Why Does the BT Smart Hub Keeps Restarting?
Here’s what could cause the BT Smart Hub to reboot or power off constantly:
Are There Any BT Smart Hub Lights?
If the reboot problem is accompanied by a certain LED light, this may help identify the issue faster by knowing what the specific lights mean.
So, here’s an explanation of all BT hub lights:
- Blue – The BT Smart Hub is not online!
- No light – the BT Smart Hub is powered off.
- Orange (Flashing/Solid) – A service problem.
- Purple (Flashing/Solid) – The hub is connecting.
- Red – An underlying system/hardware issue.
- WPS flashing – The Hub is on standby for WPS.
Info: If none of the LEDs are coming on, the BT hub’s power supply could be disrupted, which prevents the device from working normally.
BT Smart Hub Keeps Rebooting – Proven Ways to Fix!

1. Secure the Hub’s Power Adapter!
A loose or potentially damaged power cord is the most significant sign of underlying power complications with the BT hub.
The first step is to verify that the power cord of the BT hub is securely connected on both ends and there are no loose or hanging cables in the setup.
Verify that all setup wires are appropriately connected to their ports!
After verifying that all cables in the setup of the BT hub are secured, press the power button on the front to turn on the hub.
To discharge the hub while the power cord is connected, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and observe whether an indicator light will start flashing.
Note: No lights on your BT Smart Hub means no power!
2. Reset the BT Smart Hub Power Supply
A simple way to address underlying power complications with the BT Smart Hub is to conduct a power cycle.
This effective reboot discharges the hardware out of the current power supply and provides the network device with a fresh startup, free of any errors, which will hopefully help!
Note: The power cycle will not erase any of your BT Smart Hub configurations!
Here’s how to power cycle the BT Smart Hub in easy steps:
- Disconnect the power cable from the back of the BT Hub.
- Press and hold the power button on the front of the device.
- After 30 seconds, release the button and connect the cord.
- Press the power button again to turn on the BT Smart Hub.
- Test if the network device is still experiencing power issues.
Note: The BT Smart Hub could also be overheating and constantly restarting, so keep the unit unplugged for longer in order for the hardware to cool down.
3. Uninstall Third-Party Setup Equipment
Any defective third-party devices re-routing the power supply of the BT Smart Hub are one of the most significant suspects for rebooting.
To verify that the hub receives power directly from the electrical outlet, you must remove any connectors, strips or dividers in the hub setup.
Remove the following devices from the setup of the BT Smart Hub:
- Installed power cord extenders.
- Power strips, dividers or re-routers.
- Smart outlet plugs and connectors.
Do not reinstall any third-party equipment before identifying the cause of the BT Smart Hub malfunctioning.
Verify that the network device is directly connected to the electrical outlet and secure the power cable on both ends.
Warning: A loose power cord could result in an onset of power complications!
4. Connect the Hub to a Different Outlet
If the BT Smart Hub keeps restarting, it is likely that the malfunction is related to the electrical outlet of the device.
To determine if the issue is related to a power shortage on the electrical outlet’s end, the next step is to relocate the hub to another power outlet and install the adapter.
Here’s how to connect the BT hub to a different electrical outlet:
- Pick a suitable electrical outlet to power the BT Smart Hub.
- Unplug the power cable of the hub from the current outlet.
- Relocate the network device next to the new power outlet.
- Install the power cable of the corner into the new wall outlet.
- Check if the BT Smart Hub is still rebooting or powering off.
How to Test an Electrical Outlet?
To determine if the previous outlet of the BT hub is malfunctioning, connect your smartphone’s charger to test whether there is a voltage.
If you’re concerned that the A/C line from the fuse is fluctuating or unstable, plug a lamp and observe whether the light will be very weak or flickering.
Reminder: Connect the BT hub directly to the electrical outlet without using re-routers!
5. Factory Reset the BT Smart Hub
If there’s a complication with the hardware or the system of the BT Smart Hub, the best solution is to perform a factory reset.
All BT hubs have an in-built reset button, allowing them to revert the network device’s software to factory values in less than a minute, but there is a downside.
Here’s how to complete a factory reset on the BT Smart Hub:
- Verify that the BT Hub is connected to the power supply.
- Find the reset pinhole on the back panel of the device.
- Insert a pin into the reset pinhole of the BT Smart Hub.
- Next, press and hold the reset button inside the pinhole.
- After 10-15 seconds, stop holding the hub’s reset button.
After the factory reset, the BT Smart Hub will reboot and reload all system files and options.
Hence, completing the startup initialisation of the hub is necessary, as all configured settings and network data will be erased, and your wireless network won’t be functional when done.
Tip: Once the hub is reset, reconnect the service cable to refresh the network device’s system!
6. Replace the Power Adapter of the BT Hub
An underlying malfunction with the power adapter of the BT hub may cause the restarting.

How to Identify a Defective BT Hub Power Adapter?

- Loose or wiggly adapter connectors.
The power adapter could get heavily damaged if a heavy object is placed on top of the adapter or sits in an unnatural position for too long.
Verify that the power cable of the BT hub is always resting and isn’t pressured by surrounding objects or over-stretched from any of the wire ends.
How to Replace BT Hub Power Adapter?
The BT hub uses a type A, 12V, 1.5A PSU power cable, available in many online stores, including Amazon and other popular marketplaces.
Once you have the replacement power adapter, you only need to disconnect your old power cord and connect your replacement.
