The solution might sound simple, but there is a lot more to know so we recommend to keep reading and not skip anything. Let’s first learn more about the possibilities.
Why Telus Optik Remote Wont Control Volume?
If your Telus Optik remote is unable to control your TV’s volume, it is possible that the button got faulty.
On the other hand, your TV could have completely erased the remote or the programming is missing.
Putting the hardware issues aside for the moment, let’s review all the best possibilities that could impact your Optik remote’s volume button.
Worn-out Batteries
If the batteries of your Optik remote got faulty, it is possible that some of the buttons could stop working.
Problem with TV Audio Settings
If the audio settings of your TV do not work with the remote, you will be unable to control the volume.
No Output Device
If there is no output device selected, neither the default speakers, you will be unable to control the volume of your TV as well.
Dust
Potential dust gathered within your remote’s hardware might impact the volume button’s functionality.
Disconnected Remote
If the remote got accidentally disconnected from the TV, you won’t have access to any of the TV’s features, using the remote.
Having that said, let’s build our way up from here and get the issue resolved as soon as possible!
How To Fix Telus Optik Remote Volume Not Working?
Before proceeding any further, have you tried replacing the remote’s batteries?
This whole inconvenience could be caused by a lower power charge within the remote and by replacing the batteries, you should get a really good shot at resolving the problem!
If replacing the remotes didn’t help, here are the best solutions to try:
Solution #1 Discharge The Remote
If replacing the batteries didn’t help, you can try discharging the remote for your first solution.
If you don’t know how to properly discharge a remote, follow the simple instructions down below:
- Eject the remote’s batteries.
- Press EACH button on the remote and hold it down for 2 seconds.
- Re-insert the batteries.
- Put the compartment back together.
When ready, test the remote volume and if it still does not work, proceed with the next solution.
Solution #2 Re-Program The Remote
If discharging the remote didn’t do any good, you must ensure that your remote device is programmed to the TV’s memory.
After a factory reset of the TV, for instance, the memory stick of the TV will be refreshed, resulting in the loss of your remote’s data.
To program your Telus Optik TV remote to the TV, follow these instructions:
- Ensure your TV and digital box are turned ON.
- Press and hold the TELUS/STB button.
- Wait for the LED to flash twice and release the button.
- Enter the specific activation code “977”.
- Press the TELUS/STB button again, to link the device.
- Press Enter and then options.
- Confirm the process by powering down the TV by pressing the power button.
Note: Make sure you’re aiming the remote towards the TV the whole time and do NOT shut down your TV.
If the TV shuts down during the reprogramming, the remote’s data will be halfway uploaded to the TV, and you will have to perform a factory reset to attempt the programming again.
Solution #3 Fix Sound Options
If you haven’t selected an active output device for speakers in your TV’ sound options, there won’t be any volume your remote can control in the first place.
Depending on your TV, go to the sound options and click on the Output device option.
If you’re willing to use a separate audio device as an output for the sound, make sure to choose it in the drop-down menu for your remote control to adjust the volume of the corresponding device.
Once you’re done, confirm the changes, reboot your TV and try using your remote’s power button to see if this will fix the issue.
Solution #4 Power Cycle TV & Cable Box
If your Telus Optik remote volume is not working even after all previous solutions, then you should start suspecting the TV.
Try power cycling your TV and cable box to remove possible malfunctions with the devices.
Sometimes it could be your TV’s fault or the cable box if the signal goes through it first.
To power cycle ANY device, follow these steps:
- Unplug the power adapter from the source.
- Wait for at least 5 minutes for the device’s electricity to drain.
- Plug the power adapter back into the source.
Note: We recommend avoiding any power strips or dividers, as these types of devices could be potential issue carriers.
Solution #5 Remove Any Interference
The next solution is to get rid of any interference that might be preventing you from adjusting the sound levels of your TV.
Here are some steps to get rid of any interference:
- Ensure you’re aiming the remote directly towards the TV.
- Remove any solid obstructs between your remote and TV.
- Remove any RF receivers around your TV that could be interfering with the infrared signal of your Optik remote.
- Ensure that your remote is not interacting with another device’s volume!
Once you’re done with all of these steps, reboot your TV again and check if the volume button now works.
Solution #6 Connect External Speaker
Since there is not much left you can do, at least you can identify whether your TV default speaker is preventing the volume control or not.
You can simply take Jack headphones or a soundbar and insert them into your TV audio output port.
Next, you’ll need to switch from the default speakers to your headphones/audio device and try changing the volume.
If the volume does not work even when you’re not using the default TV speakers, then your remote might not be working.
To fix the sound button of the Telus Optik TV remote, power refreshes the remote and hard reset the TV. Replace the remote’s batteries, get rid of any interference and make sure the remote is programmed. Lastly, you can either factory reset your TV or just the audio settings (if available).
