An Arris modem is no exception. Resetting your Arris modem to factory default can solve internet network speed issues and can boost performance.
There are two ways to reset an Arris router to factory defaults: by using the restart button on the modem and through the web interface. Using any of these will restore it back to its default state and remove all issues related to internet network speeds.
Reasons Why You Need To Reset Arris Modem
A wireless network needs to refresh to fix certain problems. Resetting an Arris modem may be the best way to solve the following:
- Network browsing speeds slowing down
- Cannot connect to the web problems
- Slow gaming speeds, slow loading of web pages
Note: Restarting is different from resetting as a restart won’t wipe out your modem settings.
Methods On How to Factory Reset Arris Modem
As mentioned, you can use the restart button or reset the router to factory default through the admin page. Let’s first focus on how to reset Arris modem to factory settings using the reset button.
Reset To Factory Defaults Using the Reset Switch
Step #1. Look For the Restart Button of Your Arris Modem
The restart button is usually found at the back of the router but if you can’t find the reset here, check the underside of your router. Look for the model number and locate the product manual.
Consider the following: check the diagram to find the exact position of the restart switch. Look for the button or slot that says “Reset.”
You don’t need to remove the cable to your computer or the main internet cable. Also, you may need to use a pin or the tip of a pen to reach the reset switch.
Step #2. Press And Hold the Reset Button for Around 10 To 15 Seconds
Once you’ve located the restart switch, push and hold it for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will activate the reset to factory defaults.
You will also notice that the lights at the front panel will become steady as you click the reset.
Router models have varying features so check the product manual before you click the switch. The position of the lights at the front panel may vary as well. Also, some older models may or may not have a restart button.
Step #3. Wait Until the Device Resets
A restart may happen as soon as you click the restart switch but sometimes you need to wait a while longer.
You can tell that it has restarted when the LED lights up altogether while in some models, the lights light up and then proceed with a running lights pattern.
The modem has successfully restarted when you can’t access the wifi with your smartphone or laptop anymore. You may also need to power off the modem right after a successful restart.
Reset An Arris Router Modem Using the Admin Interface
Step #1. Connect To The Network.
The Arris router IP address that is used to go to the admin page is 192.168.0.1. Use your web browser to launch the page.
If this does not work, try other alternate IP addresses such as the following:
Step #2. Go To Security Or Utilities
The section Security or Utilities may vary from Arris modem model to another so be sure to check the entire page.
Click on any of these pages and locate the option to restart the modem. Check the instruction manual of your device to find the Security or Utilities on the admin page.
Step #3. Select The Option For Factory Restart
From the Setting or the Utilities, choose an option that resets the router to factory settings. Just like using the restart button, doing this will make the LEDs light up or move in a running lights manner.
This configuration is different in every modem/router. Your modem must also be plugged or powered on to restart.
Step #4. Wait For The Router To Restart
The router will restart after selecting the restart option. Just like pressing the restart switch, your connected devices won’t be able to access the modem. This is a sign that you have successfully restarted the modem.
All your settings will be erased after the restart. You need to setup everything first before use. You need the default username and password to access the modem and for setup.
The default login details are – username is admin and the password is password.
Note: Aside from restarting the modem, you can set up the router, enable or disable guest access, change the network password, and more through the Arris admin page.
