Whether it’s an unwanted caller, robocalls, or a scam phone call you’re trying to avoid, you might be wondering how to block a phone number on CenturyLink landline?
CenturyLink is one of the most popular and in-demand landline phone providers in the United States with more than 4.7 million subscribers in 2021. CenturyLink’s landline phone service has so many features included and one of these is blocking.
You can block a number from your CenturyLink landline phone through Selective Call Rejection. This landline phone feature also lets you block a list of numbers creating a “blocked list.”
Reasons Why Subscribers Use Call Blocking
CenturyLink has a feature called Selective Call Rejection which allows you to block a list of numbers. Subscribers use this feature because of the following reasons:
- To block calls from telemarketers, spammers and robocalls.
- To block known numbers of estranged relatives and family members.
- To block calls from bill collectors, agencies and solicitors.
Note: The Selective Call Rejection feature works for local and some long-distance calls.
It is a self-service option, but you may still access customer service to help you with other aspects of call blocking.
Methods On How to Block A Phone Number On Centurylink Landline
Call blocking is easy to do and is free to use. You can block as many numbers as you want and access your blocked number list at any time.
How To Block Calls on Centurylink Using The Self-Service Option
Step #1. Use The Phone That You Wish to Block Unwanted Calls From
Use your home phone to block calls. If you have another CenturyLink home phone in another location registered under your name, you need to block the number on that phone as well if you don’t want to receive calls.
Blocking is available on all CenturyLink home phones together with other features like caller ID, voicemail, and more.
This feature is ready to use and may be accessed anytime. You may also ask a customer service agent to block calls from you, but you need to wait in the queue.
Step #2. Listen For the Dial Tone
Your home phone should be working, must have a steady dial tone to use this feature. If you don’t have a dial tone, place the handset down and try again.
There are many reasons why there’s no dial tone: problems with the line, wall jacks, filters, and defective handsets are the most common.
If you’re using a wireless handset, check if the battery level is full before attempting to block calls.
Step #3. Press “*60” To Access the Centurylink
Selective Call Rejection feature. After confirming that there is a steady dial tone, press the numbers *60.
This will now let you access the CenturyLink Selective Call Rejection Feature. Other carriers are using the same numbers to block calls as well.
If you’re using a rotary phone: instead of “*60” press “1160.” You will hear recorded instructions right after dialing 60. Follow the instructions carefully.
Step #4. Press “#” And Patiently Wait for The Dial Tone
You will be asked to press the pound sign (#) after you hear the instructions. Afterward, wait for a dial tone before you proceed. If you’re using a rotary phone, instead of the pound sign, use “11”
You can always hang up and begin the process if you are unable to do this for the first try. The recorded message instructions may change so be sure to listen well.
Step #5. Enter The Complete Phone Number That You Want To Block
After pressing the pound sign or 11 for rotary phones, it’s time to enter the number you wish to block (please include the area code). When you’re done, press the pound sign or the number 11 again.
You can only block one number at a time. If you have several numbers to block, add them one at a time.
Enter the phone and area code of the number you want to block. If you are unsure of the area code, look it up before a call block.
Step #6. You May Block An Unknown Caller At Once.
Right after receiving nuisance phone calls, and unwanted sales call, or a harassing call from an unknown number (anonymous call rejection feature), you can immediately block the number by hanging up and dialing *60.
As with all known and unknown blocked numbers, anytime unwanted callers try to access you, they will hear a message that you’re not accepting calls.
You may always deactivate this feature by dialing *80 and following the recorded instructions.
You may be asked to enter the number you wish to unblock. If you have a caller ID, you can check the number of the caller and use the call blocking feature.
Note: Call blocking works for unwanted calls in your local area and may also block numbers from long-distance incoming calls.
Use The *61 Self-Service Method
The code *61 is used to add your last phone numbers or call to your blocked numbers list. This is different from *60 as this code will let you enter the number you want to block.
*61 is not just for CenturyLink home phone subscribers but also with AT&T phone service. And as with other carriers, all you need is to dial the blocking code and enter the phone number you want to include in your block list.
Pressing *61 will help you block unwanted calls, but this will only work with the last phone call you received. Dialing *61 immediately after the call will also add the number to your call blocking list.
Still Cannot Block Phone Numbers On Your Centurylink Landline?
If for some reason you cannot block phone numbers using the *60 option, or your call blocking list is full, you can prevent callers from calling by registering on the DNC list.
The national Do Not Call list will help you avoid calls from solicitors, telemarketers, robocalls, and scammers.
At Century Link, you can block up to 15 phone numbers. If your list is full, you need to remove a number or two by using *80.
